Road to Wembley

The beauty of the cup long lost on Addicks’ fans since 1947. No? Ok, I was at the Old Trafford ‘things can get only better’ game, and the 1981 Ipswich Town ‘whatsa matter you’ game but seriously we are pretty much the worst team in English FA Cup history and tomorrow’s game is I believe a free pass for Russell Slade.

Drawn against the highest placed team in the hat, free scoring Scunthorpe backed by around 700 fans will give us a torrid time as Russell tinkers with his small squad. We play again on Tuesday in the ‘whatsit cup’, that I’ve not even followed and then we go to Swindon missing four players live on the box a week tomorrow.

Tomorrow the club are, I think, unable to manipulate the attendance. Now, low FA Cup early round crowds are sadly not unusual in our recent history, however I will be surprised if more than 5,000 Addicks take their seats.

We will wait and see on who attends and what team Slade puts out, although you’d think it will include Tex, Ajose, Chicksen and Botaka, who probably will have a blinder and then not be available next Saturday.

The road to Wembley…..

I think today is the first time I have ever hoped that we will lose a game. (Or maybe I’m just completely indifferent to the result which is just as bad.)

I don’t want us to lose league matches, and another relegation could mean there is nothing left to salvage when the Belgians leave, but a win tomorrow is almost pointless. A win and what? Another low Valley crowd in the next round, or an inglorious away exit somewhere grim ? I will have talkSPORT or Five Live on in the afternoon, but I won’t be following on Twitter or SKY Sports.

I might clean out the fridge.

I could right an epic but to save everyone the pain I will keep it brief
I cannot disagree with anything BC is saying. 52 years a Charlton supporter, still a season ticket holder with my two lads and after watching last weeks huff and puff display at home to Chesterfield I am off to watch my local non league side Tunbridge Wells play.

I used to love the FA Cup and all it stood for, sadly Charlton and the FA cup are not something I can currently do not recognise from years gone by 😦
