Blackburn Rovers 3 Charlton Athletic 0

The biggest defeat of a season that is rapidly turning from hopeful to worrying. A straightforward win for Blackburn today, who like Huddersfield before them won their first game of the season against the Addicks. If it wasn’t for Nick Pope the score may well have resembled a rugby score.
Jordan Rhodes scored twice, his 9th and 10th goals against Charlton, the first coming at a killer time seconds before the break.
Up until then the 1st half sounded reasonably decent from our perspective although we had to thank young Nick Pope for allowing us to even be in the game after two superb saves early on, both from that thorn in our side, Rhodes. Funny how we used to joke that Michael Morrison used to carry the Scotsman around in his pocket. No, I’m not laughing either.
The 2nd half was a canter for Rovers, which raises the biggest red flag of all. Luzon talks about character but he continues to leave the club’s most influential leader for over a decade on the bench. Our forwards have not meshed and are each struggling with injuries. Makienok not travelling because he was injured in training Friday. With Bergdich not looking anywhere near the standard required, the left side of midfield will continue to be an issue.
Luzon can talk about character as much as he wants, but that has to come from the top. Wednesday would be a start.

Elsewhere in the League: Brighton missed a penalty and drew at Wolves . Middelsbrough are 2nd winning at Forest. Reading are 6th after beating Bristol City on their travels 2-0. Huddersfield won again and are above us thrashing Bolton 4-1. Preston are 3rd bottom 3 points below us after losing at Brentford. Rothertah stay bottom despite a late winner at home to Cardiff.
Shockin, shockin juss shockin.
I for one wasn’t thrilled at the Palace draw, and now I’m looking forward to it even less. What’s gone wrong, we can only speculate. Diarra – man of the match against Rotherham, “rested” against Huddersfield, then has a mare against Blackburn. It’s all so, so predictable. Afer Palace, it’s hard to see us getting anything in Cardiff, and then we have to fight the Fulham hoodoo and the live on Sky hoodoo both at the same time. It could be a long old winter.
