A 7,000 sell out crowd at Bermuda’s National Stadium yesterday afternoon watched a bit of a dull game, although when you are 5-0 up from the 1st leg, that tends to happen, at least until the final 10 minutes when the Gombey Warriors hit three late goals to beat the Bahamas 3-0, and therefore 8-0 on aggregate in the CONCACAF 1st Round 2018 World Cup qualifier.
Huddersfield Town’s Nahki Wells got two, although he also missed a first half penalty (his 3rd in a week) otherwise he would have grabbed a hat-trick, and the other goal was from defender Tyrell Burgess.
In early June Bermuda will play Guatemala over two legs in the 2nd Qualifying Round on their way to Russia 2018.

Well done, Bermuda! My regional interest is in Montserrat where I worked for six months post-volcano. They have risen from 200+, absolute bottom of the FIFA rankings in 2002 (losing to 2nd worst Bhutan), to 165, so I was hoping for progress against Curaçao yesterday. Oh, well, losing a two-leg contest by one goal is not that bad.
Haha. I do love following the early qualifying rounds of the World Cup. I saw that Bhutan, ranked the lowest FIFA nation at 209 beat Sri Lanka (pop: 20 million) over two legs in the Asia 1st Rd qualifier.
It does seem strange that in CONCACAF, Asia and Oceania the smallest countries and islands have to qualify. I am sure that has to arrive in UEFA soon.
