Charlton Athletic 3 Huddersfield Town 0

“It was beyond what any supporters would do to the opposition manager. But I am not surprised with how they were. It was very touching and emotional for me but I am quite embarrassed as well. They have moved on and we have moved on, but it was a great moment for me in my long career and it’s something that I won’t forget.”
If football was played out to a script then today’s game would be it. Academy award winning even.
Chris Powell received a fantastic welcome before kick off and then again at 3 minutes past 3. After that the packed Valley lapped up a superb performance cheering the team to the rafters and at £1.66 a goal I hope some of those thousands that took advantage of ‘football for a fiver’ return to see Luzon’s team again.
JBG scored a terrific free kick to set us on the way and then it was great to see Tony Watt get the two others, both in the 2nd half. Watt has made a massive difference and is so direct that the crowd volume increases with anticipation when he gets on the ball and I look forward to seeing that 3rd goal, a proper striker’s goal by the sound of it.
Take away the return of Powell and ‘football for a fiver,’ often previously such a let down, and this was a very significant win. One can make an argument that both Brentford and Wigan when we played them weren’t in the best of shapes, but I think today pitched together two very evenly matched teams, and I expect both clubs to finish close to each other in the league.
So to win so well and play in the way that it sounded we did was fantastic, and it moves us into 12th and 11 points above Millwall in 22nd.
Credit to Guy Luzon for being able to add more directness, organisation and simplicity to this team. His programme notes were courteous too, fitting for a perfect day.

Elsewhere in The Championship: Crowd trouble marred Millwall’s late defeat at Rotherham, which leaves them 6 points adrift and Wigan won at rock bottom Blackpool 3-1. Fulham had a shock win over Derby, their first win in seven, Leeds 2-up at home to Watford in 20 minutesl lost 3-2 at home to Watford, Brighton lost at Bolton and Forest won again, 3-0 away at Reading.
Sounds like 3’s a charm and I suspectI no opposing manager has ever been welcomed by another club’s fans as CP was today
But maybe time to give more credit to Luzon. Three 3’s and zero against excepting Derby and perhaps then only for first half hour recent results are far beyond what we could have imagined 3 weeks ago. And not least a 11 pt gap over our best friends a few miles away.
Another nice weekend to savor
Cali Addick, yep nice glass of Napa Sauvignon Blanc being tipped back now. Cheers. COYA
We went to Charlie Palmer to celebrate (along with a 45 th wedding anniversary ) with a nice Oregon Pinot Noir.
Cheers
Do you have any more games lined up CA? I’m happy with the current run so I’d just like to say that I hope you haven’t!
