Lepoint signs

The Addicks added to their midfield ranks today by signing Belgian Christophe Lepoint on an undisclosed deal until 2017.

30-year old Lepoint was at Belgium Jupiler League KAA Gent, and has played 17 games so far this season, without a goal. He is said to be a more defensive midfielder, with more ardour than ability. Some would say like his new head coach.

Gent fans talk fondly of Lepoint, but don’t appear too distraught at his departure. What he might add is some always welcome, and much needed fight, but I don’t expect him to be hurtling from box to box planting in 25-yarders.

Lepoint was involved in a terrible car accident in 2011 that almost ruined his career, but a loan spell at Bob Peeters’ old club Waasland-Beveren a couple of seasons ago helped him with his rehabilitation and Lepoint has been a Gent regular since.

I noticed that the OS described him as a Belgium international. He is, Lepoint played one friendly match for his national team nearly 5 years ago.

Welcome Christophe. I look forward to seeing that fighting spirit.

He has been described as a box to box midfielder with a decent scoring record and Gent fans on Twitter loved him. Not sure what info to believe!

I know. You have to always take fans’ of the selling club’s opinion with a tad of incertitude. However the Gent fans on CL come across as quite open and knowledgable.

I guess we will make up our own minds in due course.
