George Țucudean

André Bikey-Amougou plays the ball into Reza Ghoochannejhad, who lays the ball out wide to Jóhann Berg Gudmundsson, who crosses for Igor Vetekole to head back across the goal for George Țucudean to fire home.

Who’d be a commentator eh? Poor old Peter Finch must be waking up in cold sweats!

The reliable Doctor Kish has posted that the striker Bob Peeters mysteriously talked about yesterday after losing to Welling for the first time since 2006, was George Țucudean (pronounced zz-ucu-dean).

Țucudean is a Standard Liege player who was bought from Romanian side Dinamo Bucharest in January 2013, and was subsequently loaned back to the Romanian’s after just 11 games in the Jupiler League.

In his time at Dinamo, George scored 17 goals in 73 games. In his half-season at Standard he didn’t score. Țucudean is only 23 and acts as a target man.

Tonight, with the squad now in Spain, stories persist that Peeters also plans to sign another target man. His name and how many consonants it has are unknown!

On paper, Peeters looks to be putting together an exciting group of young players. My concern is that it will need some serious man managing in the dressing room, particularly as a number of these players have no Championship experience.

On the flip side, Peeters has done his business early but I still think we are a couple of players short. Then all eyes will be on Peeters to mold and build a capable squad in his style to attack a very tricky division.

Polish Pete, this is him here if you have no idea who I am talking about, is expected to join network club STVV on loan.

Albeit an early pre-season game, the ‘team’ or should I say ‘squad’ looked rather unbalanced and lacking in a cutting edge. I also think that we need a goalkeeper of some championship experience. As I posted a couple of weeks ago, getting bodies in is fine, but we seem to be missing championship proven payers, not players from the ‘network’. Seems as though RD is more concerned with his ‘vision’, than specific team building at CAFC. An unproven manager, and players like ‘spongefoot’ ain’t gonna cut it I am afraid………I would have thought that we have enough ‘network players’, the fact that they were not really used by Riga suggests that point. After a very difficult season, for CAFC, let us hope that we can have some stability, and development for the forthcoming season ahead. It may be the RD”s cash, but it is our club in all of this. By the way the Academy plan’s are as yet not quite signed off, I was surprissed to hear at the training ground from one of the key people…. ( i.e no building work has actually started). …… So a bit of a way to go before the ‘fruits’ of that benefit kicks in?

You can’t have it both ways. Moan about the unproven foreign players…and moan about the proven players we’ve got (spongefoot). We need quality, there’s no doubt – and proven Championship strikers are going for £11million quid these days.

Not moaning Davey…… just pointing out that the team looked unbalanced, I went did you?
I know ‘spongefoot’ is an easy target, so who did you think played well?
Who did you think played okay…… The penalty was down to the goalkeeper not making a proper clearance. Okay he is young and inexperienced, but he will get no favours in the Championship.

I am afraid the Kermogent has gone, the issue is and was why was he not replaced?….. with someone as capable.?

My issue with the network players is that 2 managers have been reluctant to use them. So if they were good enough why were they not played last season!…….
Of course early pre-season games are always about options. giving the squad players a chance etc. But I am afraid this was a poor show, and few came away with any credit, as has been reported. As I posted do not expect a star striker from the academy, this season, or next.
