Adiós

Wow, I’m loving this World Cup. A day with 11 goals and the World and European Champions dumped out of the tournament.

Spain are not the first team in the history of the World Cup Finals to have their previous invincible reputations torn to shreds by a younger and impervious generation. Chile were simply better and rattled Spain’s back line just as the Dutch did on Friday night and what odds on the Champions being out after conceding 7 goals in two games all before the first week is out?

Chile were a dark horse of mine, but it was the Netherlands I had going home with Australia not La Roja after the Group stages.

As for the Aussies, I watched their game lunchtime and they gave the Dutch an almighty fright. Tim Cahill scored a spectacular volley and the game was as open and end to end as many of the others have been, but the Dutch were eventually too good with van Persie and Robben again stealing the show. Tim Cahill was booked and will miss his countries final game next week.

Whilst Millwall fans were no doubt purring over Cahill’s performance, who by the way has scored 4 more goals in World Cup Finals than Messi and 5 more than Rooney, Addicks fans were scratching their head at Alex Song’s moment of madness in the Cameroon’s game against Croatia tonight.

Cameroon were 0-1 down at the time but Song’s stupidity was the death knell for the Central African nation, who eventually were hammered 4-0 by the Croats and their fans were left with the sight of their own players turning on each other. It was an embarrassing end for Cameroon with the injured Samuel Eto’o watching helpless from the bench.

Meanwhile Brazil laboured again yesterday to the impressive Mexicans and this tournament looks wide open with possibility of a nation winning the title for the first time growing every day.

England’s turn again tomorrow.
