New striker signed

Charlton have agreed a fee with Danish side FC Copenhagen for the transfer of striker Igor Vetokele, a 22 year old Angolan international.

Prior to moving to Denmark, Vetokele played in Belgium for Gent and Cercle Brugge, where he played under Bob Peeters. Vetokele was born in Luanda but grew up in Belgium and played at every level for Belgium up to Under 21, but switched his allegience to his birthplace this year and has 2 caps.

Last season he scored 14 goals in 31 apperances for FC Copenhagen in the Danish Superliga and also played in the Champions League including facing Real Madrid.

The ball has started to roll. Welcome Igor.

UPDATE: CAFC say that currently only the fee has been agreed for Igor Vetokele. Personal terms are still to be agreed and a medical is still to be passed. Strange I think to make the announcement already then.

I know FH, and based on O’Grady, I should perhaps keep my powder dry.

Can Charlton not hold off on the announcement until the personal terms are agreed ? CPRR

Hey, lets not be cynical guys. Once RD makes him an offer he’s hardly likely to turn it down. £300 quid a week is not to be sniffed at.

I would think Vetokele is more in RD’s price range, wage wise. Previously at one of the smaller Belgium sides and a young player in Denmark would not I expect be on the salary of a Championship player.

So if medical passed, then he can be re-united with Peeters and get a small pay rise.

I am assuming there will be no work permit issues, even though he was born in Angola and also committed his national career there. I would have thought his age and only 2 caps would go against him….

In fact I can see it now, we buy him, we get turned down on a work permit and he goes on loan to Standard, who wanted him in January!
