Is it possible to enjoy a funeral?
That is the question we were asking ourselves yesterday evening after we put my best mate’s Dad to rest in Catford.
He was insistent on no mourning, no black, no sadness and no sorrow and true to his memory, family and friends held a perfect commemoration of his life.
The little chapel at the Hither Green crematorium was packed to the rafters as we celebrated his life and two wonderful people gave stirring, funny and beautiful tributes to a proper bloke who wasn’t just my mate’s Dad, but he was my mate too. He’ll be missed.
The only sadness is that he will be bloody annoyed that he missed out on all the fun.

My dad was cremated at that crematorium, I know it well as it’s become the final resting place of many in my family. Sounds like “your mate’s” life was given a very appropriate tribute.
Richard – we too have many of our family resting at Hither Green crematorium. I was disappointed to see it a little run down actually, but despite the sadness of having to go there, I was pleased to walk around it again.
