Reading 1 Charlton Athletic 0

Another 1-0 defeat, again with no real shame attached to it.

I switched on towards the end and all I could hear was the magnificent noise and encouragement from the travelling Addicks. We need to make sure we keep that togetherness and spirit, because I can sense on forums and on Twitter that some people are splintering.

It was always going to be a tough night, but we competed well in the 1st half and then dominated the majority of the 2nd half and with some luck, better refereeing and more cutting edge we may have returned with something from the game, but another early goal settled it for the opposition following another punished error.

I was happy to see Evina start but it sounds as if it was the introduction of the substitutes that almost won us a point. Sordell in particular impressing and maybe it is about time Powell gave him another chance at impressing from the off.

After last night’s results, Saturday won’t be for the faint hearted.

Powell-ometer: He went with Evina to give the team more width, but Green did a better job when he came on. We have to find goals from somewhere, because there is not a lot else missing.
Elsewhere: Managerless Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley both won at home to Leicester and away at Barnsley respectively. One has to feel for Dave Jones and David Flitcroft, jobless, sat at home. Yeovil beat Blackpool, who ended the game with 8 men, Ricardo Fuller, one of three players sent off. QPR beat Bournemouth 3-0, Huddersfield won at Bolton, Millwall and Forest was 2-2, Ipswich beat Blackburn for 6 points in 4 days, Birmingham and Doncaster drew 1-1 and Burnley and Watford was goalless.
