Huddersfield Town 3 Charlton Athletic 2

The open top bus company were not surprised that I rang and cancelled them this morning after the Addicks once against wrestled defeat from the jaws of victory to end our latest Cup run.

Powell utilised a 3-5-2 formation which although didn’t bear any fruit it did offer 179 hardy souls a much more heartening display. We started for once brightly and in an attacking mood and many chances were created against a Town side that has began the season excellently.

Twice we took the lead, but we still managed to concede 3 asking further questions of our defence that has let in 8 in the last two and a half matches, and with Leicester coming next, who have just hit 8 in a week, this urgently needs to be addressed

The good news is that last night’s performance gave Chrissy Powell more options with personnel and formation and it was especially pleasing to see Johnnie Jackson get 85 minutes under his belt.

Marvin Sordell also notched his first goal, which was very well worked, and hopefully those early to criticise will give him some support instead.

Addick Bloggers at the John Smith’s Stadium:
Powell-ometer: A much easier on the eye display from his team. Now to use this as a stepping stone.
Elsewhere: Reading came a cropper at Peterborough losing 6-0, Barnsley were beaten 5-1 at home by Southampton and QPR were knocked out by Swindon at Loftus Road. Bolton went out on penalties to Tranmere and Donny didn’t recover very well from last week’s aborted game losing at home to Leeds. Leicester hit 5 at Carlisle and Derby put 5 past Brentford and in bizarre scenes at Huish Park, Yeovil let Birmingham walk in a goal unopposed to make amends for their own “unsporting” equaliser but were still knocked out on penalties.
