Doing a Ceddy

Our defensive unit seems to be coming together, as opposed to our front line, but Powell being a wily defender likes to build from the back! After signing Richard Wood, Powell and Ceddy Evina finally ironed out any differences today and the Frenchman, still only 21, signed a one-year contract with the Addicks.

Ceddy is popular with fans and players and I hope he manages to really break into the side this season.

There are a lot of free agents out there, some with better opportunities and more choices than others, but with Financial Fair Play (which Kings Hill Addick discusses thoroughly here) players do not have the bargaining power that they used too, particularly outside of the Sky funded Premier League.

I think we will see a lot of cat and mouse in these closing weeks of pre-season as players wait for better offers or longer deals and perhaps agents might have to put some effort in to collect their fees in this very different climate.

This might explain Charlton’s position, equally just like in the school playground, the better players always get picked first.

Finally I understand that the club are trying to secure Jonathan Obika on a season-long loan from Spurs.
