US Open Golf

This afternoon I fly to Philadelphia for work-related things tonight and part of tomorrow but the principal reason I will be in the Commonwealth of Philadelphia is for the start of the U.S. Open at the Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, about 8 miles west of the city.

I have been invited corporately but I know the guys well that are travelling, so it should be a lot of fun. Last time I was in Philly it was our daughter’s first overseas trip and we got diverted there instead of Florida and were stuck in a snowstorm. It will be a lot warmer this week, although showers are forecast for Thursday, the day we attend.

As per always Tiger Woods is the short-odds favourite, even though he last won a major five years ago. Woods who polarizes the sport was also favourite at the recent Memorial Tournament but came in tied for 65th place. The first day can always be a bit of lottery, but we hope to tail a couple of the big names around the charming looking Merion club that is famous for having wicker baskets on top of the 18 flagsticks instead of flags.

Back on Friday to follow the business end of the Open on the box.
