2012 Top 5 Favourite Bermuda things

Five more favourite things from 2012. The following five begin with two things anomalous to Bermuda – a decent café and a decent shop both with very good service. The third was my best loved local restaurant and finally two stunning reminders of paradise. Here are my Top 5 Bermuda Things from 2012:

1. Dangelini’s, Hamilton
Good coffee is hard to find in Bermuda, but this inviting little café right next to the ferry stop in Hamilton does a great job and always with a smile. It’s also pretty impossible to pass up their range of cakes and pastries (photo) all freshly made on the premises.

2. The English Sports Shop, Hamilton
Downstairs is the spot to get your Bermuda shorts in any shade of pastel you can imagine, but ignore them and the cheesy sweaters and ties and go upstairs to see Chris and his great range of casual and business wear. I buy something every time I go in there.

3. Pearl, Hamilton
With the quantity of fish on the island the sushi should be better. There is no shortage of sushi restaurants although the creativity and quality mostly lacks, but not in Pearl where the sushi is consistently good and inspiring.

4. Horseshoe Bay, Southampton
The best beach in Bermuda period. Busy in the summer with visitors but this time of year it is a simple and nearby indulgence to be able to explore it’s tiny coves and walk barefooted on the pink sands.

5. Tuckers Point Beach Club, Harrington Sound
We are lucky that membership allows us to spend lazy days sat by one of it’s five pools or on the private beach during the summer months forgetting that this is actually where we live. I have to pinch myself sometimes to order myself another cocktail.
