Bolton Wanderers 2 Charlton Athletic 0

Two late goals sank The Addicks at the Reebok this afternoon. Both goals came from substitute David Ngog, and were moments of quality that the game lacked overall.

However victory appeared to flatter the home side as for 75 minutes it was another resolute defensive performance on the road. Some incisive counter attacking offered up a number of chances for Charlton, but they all went begging and in the 2nd half it sounded if anyone was going to break the deadlock, then it would be us.

I suppose Johnnie Jackson being our leading goalscorer tells it’s own story (he’s missed two penalties as well), but it was our first defeat in 8 games and we can bounce back next week at Hillsborough, which will be a good indication of where we are at.

In front of Bolton’s lowest crowd in 11 years, we have nothing to be disappointed about today, even though we deserved something from the game. A big shout out to those that travelled.

Addicks at The Reebok:
Powell-ometer: Still ponderous when it comes to substitutions, especially when a timely change may well have changed the outcome. I also think Hulse is a better solo striker than Yann.
Elsewhere: Cardiff’s home record was wrecked by of all teams, Peterborough. Palace were 2-up at St Andrews but Birmingham pulled it back to 2-2, Middlesbrough beat Wolves 2-0 and Hull did likewise at home to Huddersfield, who are falling like a snowflake down the table. Millwall had a big win over Leicester at home whilst Brighton and Forest was goalless. Leeds beat Ipswich 2-0 and Blackpool continued Blackburn’s misery beating them also 2-0. Burnley and Watford drew and finally Wednesday had a massive win over Yorkshire rivals Barnsley at Oakwell.
