Tie my kangaroo down

I picked a good night to go the Bermuda Rugby Classic. Every night this week it has pissed down and Wednesday the corporate tents were flooded out, but last night it was dry and warm as Canada took on Italy in the Plate semi-final and after the Lions played Australia in the main event.

Canada booked their place in the final with a close fought win over the Italians 10-7, and will play France in Saturday’s Plate final. In the later game the Lions gave a good account of themselves against a much stronger Wallabies side.

With 20 minutes remaining the Lions were down 12-10 but the 3,000 or so people in the ground sensed victory for the Lions as they piled on the pressure, but they couldn’t break through and the couple of Aussies stood near me were jumping up and down as Anton La Vin burst through to put the game out of reach with a try converted by Reily in the last minute.

The Wallabies will take on South Africa in the Classic Final on Saturday night.

In other news South African Robbie Kempson has been told he will not face charges after an off-the-ball collision with USA player Leif Gibson on Saturday night. The South African was arrested on Monday morning and spent 12 hours in custody. This link will show the video of the incident, and perhaps shows that American lawyers probably don’t understand the game of Rugby. Hopefully Kempson can take his place in the final on Saturday.
