Hollands moves to Swindon

I’m very disappointed from a personal point of view that Danny Hollands has moved to Swindon Town on loan today until January 5th. I sponsor Danny’s home shirt as I did last season when he was a key player in winning the League One title. He was also very good company at the end of season sponsors dinner.

Hollands often epitomised everything good about the side last season, playing with a big heart in 46 games. I hope he can get some good game time under Di Canio and come back with a point to prove.

Taking my player’s sponsors hat off for a minute I do think it’s fair to say that Danny has struggled at Championship level so far, but he’s not the only one and Powell has introduced a number of different players and formations as the season has evolved, some forced some planned. Hollands was on the bench for the last couple of games but being picked for the U21 team against Barnet the other night may well have been the writing on the wall.

Bournemouth were rumoured to be in the frame for him, but Swindon may have nicked him from under Eddie Howe’s nose. Hopefully Hollands can be as successful at Swindon as Leon Clarke has been at Scunthorpe. Good luck Danny, and I look forward to sharing a beer with you at the end of the season.

No amount of points to prove can change the fact that the guy can’t run. Sometimes one has to accept there’s a reason why 27-year old footballers have played all their careers in Leagues One and Two.

However a very useful ‘one-season’ signing and as you say, a good bloke too.

I only had two at the time, but point taken!

To be fair I’m probably just as slow as Danny (albeit 13 years older) but then I’m not passing myself off as Championship material (despite my 100% scoring record at The Valley).

I could see this move happening (not to Swindon…just a loan somewhere), and furthermore, I’ve got a feeling he’ll leave come January. I don’t have Danny down as one of those players happy with a squad place and sadly I can’t see a time when he’s first choice centre-mid in the Championship for us. I would suspect Powell has told him as much. I love the guy and will always hold him in the highest regard, but I think this might prove a good move for him.

If he does move on, I think it will be to a League One club.

Unfortunately, when teams progress some players cant step up with them, Danny is one of those, the bloke gave his all for the team, but ultimately got caught out many times this season, but like others I wish Danny well, he served the club as best he could and will always have a warm welcome, I can not see him being here by end of season.

Ted, TA – Agreed. In my heart of hearts I reckon I’ll be looking for another shirt to sponsor in January with Bournemouth being Danny’s likely destination.
