Charlton Athletic 1 Watford 2

Pretty fed up myself last night but no need for some of the shit throwing I have seen and heard about on the social networks. Ben Hamer had some stones thrown at him on Twitter, which frankly is pathetic. When we lose these days I just avoid all the muck slingers and fans on suicide watch and read some of our excellent Bloggers instead for a much more rounded and thoughtful opinion. I have linked these below.

Moving on. I have said on a number of occasions now that to win games we need to be at a 100% of our game, otherwise we will be undone. Even Peterborough has stirred into life and won 6 points in 4 days. This division is unforgiving. In League One in 80% of the games it might just take a backs to the wall performance and bit of magic and thank you very much, that’s another 3 points. Not here.

We are looking (and I have only seen us twice) very one dimensional. Powell after stumbling across a five-man midfield on Saturday and dominating possession with width and short passes then reverted back, rather predictably, to his favoured 4-4-2. Of course Fuller should have come back in, he is distinctly a class above, but, and I like him too, it is time for BWP to start on the bench.

I have been impressed with BWP’s work rate since the moment he joined, I know not everyone has, but his first touch is often poor and he lacks composure and sadly Bradley is one of too many of our players having problems coming to terms with The Championship, and the learning curve is coming to an end.

To dominate games we have to play 4-5-1 in my opinion. It makes us harder to match up against and gives the team more options going forward and a more snug security blanket defensively, yet mostly our back five have been superb this season, despite what some twats say on Twitter.

CP is still learning and we need to remember that but I wish he would be quicker with his substitutions, and the delay in making incisive changes mid-game has been one of his traits since first taking over.

Watford have always been a bit of a bogey team from memory and because it is the way I think, I was disappointed to see them go down to 10-men if only because when the boot has been on our foot I know what a steely resolve and added fortitude can come over teams. Mind you I hope Zola and some of their fans take a close look at the video clip of Forestieri getting ‘his studs stuck in the grass!’ My life, what tosh.

Blackpool Saturday and another run of tough games after the international break. If I think about the first game of the season and the loyalty showed to the players by Powell, that was fair enough, but Blackpool will be game 10 and it is time to put that to one side.

Powell-ometer: Time to get tough now Chrissy.
Elsewhere: Got to give it to them, Palarse won on the road again at another relegated side. Zaha again the catalyst at Molineux. Peterborough won away for the second time in a week at Barnsley, Cardiff went top after beating Birmingham 2-1, Hudson getting the winner and our next opponents won at Hull 3-2. Blackpool are the league’s top scorers, whilst we are the 2nd lowest. Leicester moved 2nd winning 2-0 at Huddersfield, who have dropped to 8th. Then it was all draws. Brighton were held at home by Ipswich, Wednesday drew 3-3 at Burnley and Leeds and Bolton ended 2-2.

Agree with all above. I desperately want to see BWP hitting the net more regularly because I agree I think his work rate is great, but feel he is struggling in this league. He maybe better used as a sub when defenders would be tiring. Great blog.
