Kean out!

It appears that at 8pm tonight whilst in the hotel with his players having the obligatory big bowl of pasta Steve Kean decided to resign his post as Blackburn Rovers manager! Weirder and weirder.

I was quite hopeful that the chicken pluckers would cluck into SE7 tomorrow in their merry mess with Steve Kean at the helm, probably for the last time whatever the result. Now, the picture is even less clear. If that is possible.

Kean issued a statement via his lawyers whilst one assumes he made his own way back to his Lancashire home: “For reasons that I cannot discuss on legal advice, it is with deep regret, given my hard work and service for the club for a number of years, that I have been forced to resign as manager of Blackburn Rovers Football Club with immediate effect, due to my position as team manager becoming untenable”.

Despite Kean being the most hated man in Blackburn (pop: 105,000) I always thought last season the players had some strange liking for him. One would have to assume also that his new signings, most of whom he admitted to never watching would also have backed him. Wouldn’t you if your boss paid you oodles of cash but didn’t have a clue what you did?

Whilst the fans who will travel in their hundreds to The Valley tomorrow will be dancing in the aisles at this news, you have to wonder at what kind of state the minds of the players will be in. Only earlier today Kean was saying what a great week it had been. You have to laugh.

Who knows if Eric Black will take over for the game or perhaps even Shebby Singh, the global advisor, will be giving the pre-match team talk.

All Chris Powell has to worry about is his own players and hopefully we will be the most committed and prepared out on the pitch tomorrow afternoon.

I am sure that with the right choice of manager and despite the jokers that run it, you can bet your bottom rupee that Rovers will have hundreds of applicants for the position, their squad is more than good enough to go up this season, especially after Kean was heavily backed in the summer transfer window by the Venky’s.
