Kermorgant out for 3 months
Bad news for Addicks today with Yann Kermorgant ruled out for 3 months with a fractured ankle, sustained in training last week. That is now Matt Taylor, Rhoys Wiggins and Kermorgant out for prolonged periods.
All three of these injuries have come since Chris Powell wrapped up his summer shopping. He does have players to fill these holes, but it weakens already a far from consequential squad. Andy Hughes and young ‘keeper Nick Pope are also in the physio’s room.
Powell has so far ignored Cedric Evina for the left back spot, swapping instead between Solly and Wilson. Taylor was on the bench anyway, but up until Saturday Yann was an ever-present. The Frenchman’s absence at Ipswich definitely accelerated Ricardo Fuller’s full debut and it may just mean that Powell has to tweak the system to rely less on the long ball. Not a bad thing.
The need for some new faces is now even more important in my book with a central midfielder still essential.
