New shirts, new sponsor
In a not very well kept secret Charlton announced today that they will have a new shirt manufacturer next season after agreeing with Macron to end the 4-year deal half way through. I think most people agree that this season’s two kits have been the best for a while so I think Macron are unfortunate to lose our business.
I think the article on the club’s website has changed during the day because I am sure it said that we will begin the search for a new one, but it now says that “the club will announce details of it’s new kit supplier in due course.”.
I can blow the whistle on the surprise and tell you that it will be made by Nike and the away kit will be all black. You heard it here first! Well not really as members of Charlton Life have been speculating for weeks. Check out the link there are some cool mocked up designs on there but truthfully the away shirt will be black and I will hazard a guess and say the home shirt will be red.
As for sponsor, the KRBS deal ends in July. Many are talking of Tony Jimenez company Les Bordes being on the shirts next season but I would be surprised if the club doesn’t maximise it’s opportunity for increased revenue by joining up with a third party company. Of course there is always the possibility that one company has their name on the front and another on the back as some League clubs do now.

Now you’ve depressed me.
Because of Nike?
I hope you will be joining your fellow bloggers for a pre-match drink at the Hope & Anchor!
I’ve never bought anything Nike and won’t be starting now. Sigh. Still, I’m sure it will be a good deal for the Club…
Sorry, but I’m with Pat.
Nike don’t generally manufacture their own sports goods and get round labour laws by out-sourcing to countries where labour is cheap and workers are, in many facctories, regularly abused. A report they commissioned from the Fair Labor Association into practices at a factory here in Indonesia clearly highlights this.
I blogged a synopsis here.
And if you get to the Valley for Saturday, have a good one.
