Charlton Athletic 3 Yeovil Town 0

It was all about the result last night, the performance was secondary, as to be fair they pretty will all be now until the fat lady starts singing, but to score 3 and to get a clean sheet was a lovely bonus.

As the Sheffield clubs continue to eat themselves, and I listened to a podcast this morning to both Danny Wilson and Dave Jones talk about their rivals and the pressure that that entails. We were not given as much as a mention.

Work for me is crazy busy at the moment so I was unable to listen to the commentary but instead followed it on the magnificent Twitter service. Like everyone at The Valley I was hugely lifted by the early goal from new boy Dany N’Guessan. Cross? Shot? Pass? Who’s counting?

Yeovil were no pushovers and they have built some good form under Gary Johnson so it was with a little relief that I saw that the old one-two were back. Kermie to BWP, wallop, 2-0. 21 goals for BWP, our first 20+ goalscorer since the inimitable Darren Bent.

Then by all accounts from those there we started to stroke the ball around a lot better, The Valley sung in the night sky, and we remembered all the good things that has got us to this point.

I look forward to seeing the third goal later as it sounded a real team effort with the hard working Darel Russell poking home the final goal late in the game.

Jackson’s injury could well see him out for a couple of weeks so it was a sensible decision by Powell to bring in Cook and N’Guessan in, both very different types of players to cover for the skipper.

I was glad to see Leon Cort start last night. He has sat on the bench in almost every game since his arrival and his professionalism has been exemplary.

So another 3 points, and the gap between us and 3rd stretches to 11. Two games unbeaten we travel to Huddersfield on Saturday in good spirits.

Powell-ometer: He made a couple of changes, although one was enforced, but he got a goal and a man of the match performance from N’Guessan and Cort. Powell would’ve been pleased to see the confidence come back to our play in the last 20 minutes.
Elsewhere: Notts County after not losing for six and handing our bottoms to us, again did us no favours by losing at home to the second Sheffield team in a week. The Blades put 5 past the Magpies to push them out of the play-off places. Wednesday needed a 94th minute Madine equaliser to draw at home to struggling Walsall. MK Dons overcame Leyton Orient, who had Kevin Lisbie on the scoresheet, 4-1, Huddersfield’s two first half goals at Chesterfield were enough to give them the 3 points, Carlisle drew with Preston 0-0 as did Stevenage and Colchester. Wycombe won 3-1 at Exeter and who’s that scoring goals? Paul Hayes with two more.
