2011 Top 5 Favourite Places

Ok, time for a bit of naval gazing. It’s January and therefore it is time for some Chicago Addick Top 5’s. I’ll start of with some of the places I found myself in in 2011.

1. Aspen
We were in Aspen in April and it has a certain finesse and poise to it. The once gold rush town in Colorado is a year round resort but to not go in the winter to see the majestic snow capped mountains would be a bucket list tick missed. My Travelogue

2. Vancouver
I was in Canada’s western province’s largest city in April. It was a beautiful spot and beyond scraggy mountains, city-hugging beaches and dense waterfront forests lies a young, energetic and thoroughly walkable metropolis.

3. The City, London
I spent the majority of my working life in The City and know its tiny streets like the back of my hand. Not everyone that works in it is a millionaire banker and it contains some of the best characters and buildings that the world has. I visit often, but normally fleetingly, but for a bulk of a week in August I spent some quality time in the square mile and felt right at home.

4. Downtown Manhattan, New York City
Likewise London, I love the diversity and energy of New York City’s lower Manhattan’s streets. With the World Trade Center finally rising from the Ashes, it will give proud New Yorkers a long a neat memorial and the tallest building in America.

5. Coral Gables, Florida
I rather liked Coral Gables, just minutes from Miami Airport in one direction, minutes from South Beach in the other. It’s a fusion of grandoise Spanish hacienda’s, short skirted Latino’s and whacky Miamian’s where roads and pavements are designed and not layed.
