Charlton Athletic 2 Huddersfield Town 0

An immense performance from the Addicks tonight and a hugely satisfying 3 points. Huddersfield started more confident but we grew into the game, and after Kermie scored the opener we were sharper in areas where it mattered, both across the back line and in the top third of the pitch where decisively BWP and Kermie, supported by Hollands, had the grace and synergy that Parkin and Rhodes lacked.

In the 2nd half before my internet feed had even finished buffering, Kermie almost put us further ahead and then for a spell we dominated. The game then bounced up and down the pitch in what was an exciting contest before as expected Huddersfield threw caution to the wind and created a couple of hand in the mouth moments (god I was getting some funny looks at work).

Danny Ward was particularly threatening but as others have said the back four, five including Hamer were awesome, in fact our very own invincibles.

2-0 is a difficult score and we have come unstuck before but not tonight as we saw the game out with the Covered End giving good advice on where to stick Huddersfield’s record.

To be honest I was more than happy for Huddersfield to get what media attention this division gets as it keeps the focus of us. Yes, their record was a little silly and I was embarrassed for Gary Birtles on Sky, who were constantly comparing it with that wonderful Nottingham Forest side under Brian Clough in 1977-78, but Lee Clark’s team are a good side, no doubt.

Matt Taylor was awarded the Sky MoW award but it was hard to pick. Solly was brilliant, so was Wiggins and Green is improving all the time but for me it had to be the man from Brittany.

During the game I had a couple of emails from mates and supporters of other teams who were watching the game, a game that ordinarily they would never have known was on, so Sky got their wish and the game was certainly a good advert for League One.

It’s always nice to win, if other people notice then all the better (shock, horror, there are even newspaper match reports out there!) but as Powell said it’s points and not records that matter.

27 games to go, sleep well tonight fellow Addicks.

Powell-ometer: As expected he put in Ephraim for Jackson but surprisingly also started with Darel Russell but had no hesitation in replacing Russell at half-time, who was a little match-rusty and Hughes performed well when he came on. Waggy was also a sensible swap late on.
Elsewhere: Well we were the main dish tonight and deservedly so. Outside of us and Huddersfield, the top 8 in the division all won on Saturday.
