Charlton Athletic 5 Preston North End 2
Christ on a bike! Another 5 goals this afternoon from the rampant Addicks against a side I still consider to be one of our promotion rivals despite their god-awful run of results (1 point from 21).
4-0 up at the break after goals from Jackson (2), BWP and Michael Morrison. It was a surprise that Phil Brown didn’t do his half-time team talk in the centre-circle although he did send his players back out well early.
We started the 2nd half well and Wright-Phillips came close at least twice before, according to my mate who I spoke to after, Hollands headed in a dreamboat of a fifth. Addicks fans were not dreaming though and from the radio I could easily tell that the 17, 486 crowd were in a carnival spirit.
Then came the expected subs which dampened the free-wheeling a little and unfortunately Preston scored two goals in the last 5 minutes, their 2nd from Daley a real stunner by all accounts.
At that point I got down from of the sofa and folded my scarf away but the grin on my face has remained for the rest of the day. Come on you on reds.

Powell-ometer: What can one say? He stuck again with Hughes, who I understand had probably his best game. As a defender though I am sure he will be reminding the players of the two late goals conceded when they come in for training on Monday.
Elsewhere: A good day for us with Huddersfield being held 1-1 at home, James Paterson grabbing a point for Walsall with his first ever senior goal. Like we did, Sheffield United lost at Stevenage, who are now 7th. Scott Laird getting Boro’s late winner. MK Dons are 4th beating Rochdale at home 3-1, Wednesday and Brentford were goalless at Hillsborough and Notts County were held by Wycombe at Meadow Lane after the Chairboys’ Joel Grant’s equaliser in the second minute of stoppage time. Bournemouth claimed their first home league win in 7 games as goals from Malone and Thomas gave them a vital victory over Scunthorpe.

Two weeks ago, for the first time since 1975, i knew Charlton would win at half time. For this to happen again a fortnight later is taking me into completely unknown territory! Trouble is CA, I just don’t know quite how to react to situations like this. i don’t have the practice.
Mind you, the “bloke behind me” reckons Rhoys will be off to the Premiership in January, and the media, ever the one for insightful pieces, reckon that Bradders wil be off too. That made me feel a bit more comfortable.
The past two games have been very, very special, and I am just buzzing. the different styles of attacking play down each flank present the oppositin with some difficult choices. On the one hand we have Danny, more a traditional winger, but crossing very early way before the goal line. On the other hand Jacko and Rhoys are using an overlapping full back style.
in the middle Kermit is winning an astonishing number of headers, although they aren’t quite reaping the benefits yet.
BWP is making goal scoring look very easy, with such a relaxed and powerful shooting technique. he was just outside the box in the second half and I was convinced he was about to lay off to Danny on the right. but he shot instead with virtually no back lift, but plenty of power.
Not sure i can bring myslef to watch the Halifax game. Telly and cups just don’t suit us!
