Stevenage 1 Charlton Athletic 0

Fortunately I picked today to take the family including my Addick supporting parents to sit poolside where we dipped our toes and sipped on cold beer in glorious October sunshine. The other option was to sit inside listening to the commentary from Broadhall Way and get the hump.

Judging from reports we made the right decision.

I won’t dwell on the game and you can read proper eye witness reports linked to below, but I am confused as to why Powell, after championing not meddling with a winning team, has now made three changes in two games.

Despite Kermie’s superb impact from the bench I think Hayes was unfortunate to be dropped and it is interesting to see BWP’s form and can I be so bold as to say work rate, dip accordingly. Wagstaff was more understandable and frankly Danny Green, potentially the most exciting signing in the summer, has failed massively to take his chance.

As for dropping Solly, possibly because of his height, from where I sit that was an error of judgement and although I can see why the decision might have been made, in my mind lesser teams (in league position anyway) should be changing their teams to counteract us and not the other way around.

We need to be bolder and more incisive and shake ourselves out of this mini slump. I’ll be there next Saturday to cheer us on.

Powell-meter: Disappointing to see Solly replaced at right back and again the subs were too late. A test for Powell now after an undoubted excellent unbeaten run of league games.
Elsewhere: Well Huddersfield showed how to win big away from home today. Jordan Rhodes hit a hat trick in a 4-0 win at Exeter and the Terriers are now unbeaten for an incredible 38 league games. Preston lost at Walsall which was handy and Clinton Morrison grabbed a late draw for MK at home to BournemoutTen-man Scunthorpe held Brentford to a goalless draw at Griffin Park, Hartlepool fell to their 3rd successive defeat, this time at home to Wycombe, and Tranmere beat Oldham 1-0. At the bottom Leyton Orient continued their revival beating Bury at home and Carlisle left for their 340-mile journey home from Yeovil with 3 points afterafte winning 3-0.
