Pardew in for Elliot
Travelling back from New York tonight after a couple of days in the city for a career chat with my boss, and a bit of other networking activity. Despite an early start yesterday I was on a real high after reading Dave’s Colchester report and scouring some of these eye witness reports on Charlton Life.
Today though Addick thoughts are with Rob Elliot, who seems poised for a move to Newcastle United to reunite himself with Alan Pardew and goalkeeping coach Andy Woodman. According to the BBC Newcastle have put in a bid for Robbie, although not a day goes by without Pardew suggesting that he is in the market for someone or other to appease the Toon. Chris Powell meanwhile has said today that any deal is in it’s embryonic stages.
What is apparent though, and it has been for a few weeks, is that Elliot will leave The Valley before the end of this month.
Although Fraser Foster looks set for a move to Celtic, Elliot would still be behind Tim Krul and Steve Harper in the goalkeeping pecking order at St James’ although I think Harper has niggling injury issues and plans to move into coaching. Equally, name me English goalkeepers who are regular number one’s in the Premier League anyway and also it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Robbie could be no.3 in the pecking order at Charlton on less money, two tiers down.
One can’t blame Elliot for wanting to better himself. There is too much pitiful badge kissing these days and when I read that Robbie Keane had just lived his lifetime’s ambition by moving to LA Galaxy my eyes rolled so far back in my head that they almost disappeared. With Robbie we know that he will always have his heart at The Valley.
