Young Bermudian players in English league

Freddy Hall. Remember that name? You probably don’t although I suspect my fellow Bermuda Addicks will. Hall is a Bermudian goalkeeper who was on trial with Charlton in December 2009. It didn’t work out and he returned to University in America to finish his degree.

A year ago he was at Plymouth Argyle on trial, but that didn’t work out either and he returned to Bermuda and played the season with the Hogges in the USL, the American 3rd tier. However it was announced today that Gary Johnson has given him a one-year contract at Northampton.

Johnson said: “He has improved an awful lot (under goalkeeper coach Tim Flowers) in the time he has been with us and has consistently got better and better. Freddy has a tremendous leap on him and a fantastic attitude. I know he will work hard to compete for a first team place.”

Another young Bermudian goalkeeper Dale Eve has signed to Stoke City’s Academy and sounds a good prospect.

Other Bermudian players in England are 20-year old Nahki Wells, who was released by Carlise United but is currently on trial with Bradford City and Reggie Lambe, who was released by Ipswich and is on trial at Bristol Rovers where he spent time on loan at the end of new season. 24-year old Angelo Simmons plays for Carshalton Town.

The search for the next Shaun Goater continues.

Found this whilelooking up Angelo Simmons, it states Carshalton United. It is in fact Carshalton Athletic, bitter rivals of my ‘second’ team Sutton United.

The Gazette is the main Bermuda paper. A mate told me it was Carshalton Town, who I don’t think even exist! It’s obviously Athletic. Thanks for checking Al.
