British Summer Time
I long gave up taking shorts back home with me on my visits as they never made it out of my case, but on recommendation I threw a pair in this time and they got a good airing with the weather well into the 70’s on the East Sussex coast as I spent a few days, mostly outside, with my son and his grandparents.
The trip was rounded off with a few pints and a curry in Bexley Village with some old mates on Sunday night. We bumped into a certain Jimmy Bullard in the Kings Head who was stood at the bar supping on a pint. The £50k a week Hull City player ended the season on loan at Paul Jewell’s Ipswich where he shined alongside Lee Martin.
Bullard’s family are local and he actually owns the One Bell in Crayford.
I did cause a bit of todo on Twitter Sunday night when I casually mentioned that Bullard told me he was signing on loan for Charlton the next day. You do these things whilst armed with a Blackberry leant in a curry house toilet having a pee after a few Peroni’s. Fabrication of course, he’s actually in a swap deal for Alan McCormack, but it did make me realise how rumours can get started. I won’t therefore tell you what Steve Sidwell said to me as we stood next to each other in WH Smith’s at Gatwick buying our newspapers!
Im back in Bermuda for one day as I fly to New York with work tomorrow for a night.

The Kings Head CA! When I was in my 20s it was a trendy Sunday night spot and was always packed to the rafters. I assume that as you went there recently it no longer is!
Haven’t been to the One Bell for a few decades – it was a tad rough in 1978 I seem to recollect!
Had a good laugh at your Hastings piece. My wife took her driving theory test near Warrior Square about 8 years ago. The flags of many nations hanging from many windows was a subtle hint that this wasn’t a good place to park . The alternative venue was the cosmoplitan charm of Chatham…
Hastings has a few good crazy golf courses near the Old Town though, and the Hastings and Bexhill branch of the Charlton supporters club are a really good bunch.

I used to drink regularly in the Kings Head in my 20’s too PA. The place used to be rammed. Last Sunday after 10pm there was only us 5 in there and the miserable landlord couldn’t wait to get us out.
ahh the One Bell…
Many a fine evening spent down the years.
