Money well spent
Today I have a light blue chequered shirt on, a pair of dark blue trousers and black shoes. Why am I telling you this? Well if you were sat where I’m sat now you’d look out across my office and see almost everyone else wearing the red shirt of Manchester United!
Very kindly this week we and employees in over 500 offices worldwide were offered the opportunity to wear to work today our Man Utd shirts as “a way to demonstrate support for the Reds before their big game away at Blackburn tomorrow” when they are expected to win their 19th league title.
Following my companies 4-year sponsorship of United we were each given an Aon sponsored Man United shirt, mine I believe is still in it’s polythene bag in a drawer in my wardrobe at home, others I suspect may have got more use out of theirs.
All sarcasm aside the deal worth £80 million was meant to open brand awareness to potential clients in Asia, Africa and South America and the firm has had some great success with that and we have rightly milked the partnership for all it’s worth including having United’s Red Devil mascot parade around Vancouver last week.
If Man U lift the Premier League trophy and can out-battle Barcelona to win the Champions League later in the month, that £80 million investment would have already be starting to show some returns.

CA, try and resist that temptation to get the sub machine gun out…
Just think of it as a halucination caused by dehydration!
Brown shoes look best with navy trousers in my view, but remember to pair with a matching belt.
Don’t be afraid to pair it with a simple but bold tie for a look that’s at once both professional yet elegant.
Also remember that if you are wearing a leather watch strap that must match too!
I’ve always wondered how companies who partake in these huge sponsorship deals measure actual tangible results as to whether or not it was financially worth it at the end of the term..
Good point, although it didn’t do AIG any good. Nor All Sports or Llanera!
I am a bit concerned that you took the Man U shirt home.
I don’t know why I still have it Dave. Like a lot of ‘corporate toot’ I always act polite and privately think I’ll garden or decorate in it.
In fact I tried to get a smaller size for my son (although he latterly looked at me as if I was mad when I said I could get him a Man U shirt!) but all I could get was an XL, which I think, ahem, is too big for me anyway!
