The end
Charlton Athletic 0 Hartlepool United 0
A predictable indolent end to the season. It will be a joy knowing that I don’t have to tune into the radio on Saturday mornings.
Sadly the biggest talking point was the achilles injury to Jon Fortune, which forced him off on the half hour mark. Fortune has been dogged by injuries in recent years and on has not been the same player since his summer return to The Valley. One now wonders if he will play again.
On the day Southampton confirmed their promotion and the Daggers were relegated after just one season in League One, a point for the Addicks meant that we at least avoided finishing in our lowest final league position since the 1920’s. Without the point we’d have finished 16th!
There was a lot of conjecture from Chris Powell after the game regarding next season. Promotion has to be the sole ambition and we need to see positive signs of that by the time the evenings start to close in. Let’s see what happens next.
I’m interested to know whether there was a lap of ‘honour’?
Addicks at the final game of the season: Charlton Casual; Blackheath Addicted; Mike’s Meanderings; Charlton Lifers;
CA fact: The last 19 games – L, L, L, L, D, L, L, L, D, D, L, W, L, D, L, D, W, L, D.

Yep,There was a trudge round the pitch after..
Most players made a token effort to wave, some threw their kit to the remaining faithful….Racon spent the whole lap talking to his mate
Took my 10 year old son for some post game autographs/pics and most were gracious with the 50 or so fans..chatting and posing for any requests etc..many making positive comments that they hoped to stay..Jackson, Elliot, Ayinsah, Daily..
That form guide cannot be ignored, and that’s all there is to it.
Wholesale changes this summer, including the manager.
Ecclestone did his own lap before the main one started. I didn’t see any arrogance in that at all – it seemd like a genuine thank you. Like an idiot I stopped to the end and cheerd and sang. I wasn’t impressed all season with a lot of performances, and I don’t hink we want CP at the helm. But I’m loyal and I suspect most of the players tried their hardest most of the time.
Benson went round with his daughter, and it seemed like a really genuine interatcion with the crowd. He made some lovely passes in the game.
I can’t quite believe the noise we made during and after the game.
Hartlepool fans looked fantastic – there were about 20 Santa Claus thatlooked like they had fallen out with the rest as they didn’t seem to join in with the choreographed arm linking and swaying but I’m sure that wasn’t the case!
Funny thing was that whilst they looked like they were singing we couldn’t hera them!
Thanks for the feedback.
In case you missed it, here are some photographs of the excellent Hartlepools’ fans dressed as Ooompah Loompah’s.
