Saints alive

Southampton 2 Charlton Athletic 0
Despite the lift we all got on Saturday, and also the wholly unexpected news today that 6,253 season tickets have been sold for next season, tonight’s result was no surprise to me. Saints wanted, needed these 3 points and following their sixth win in seven I expect them to join Brighton in filling the top two spots.
We disappointingly conceded early, did appear to get back into it after almost being over-run in the first half hour. Then we created a few chances in the 2nd but a second goal by Lee Barnard just before the hour ended the game as a contest.
It has taken Southampton’s owners a couple of seasons and a couple of managers to get this team right, but generally they have spent money well and perhaps it’s a footprint for Slater and Jimenez to follow, not including the Pardew bit of course.
It did sound as if we tried to pass the ball and were adventurous, just beaten by a better team but that is now 14 games without a clean sheet.
Meanwhile with about 10 minutes to go Kyel Reid tweeted: “I’ve had enough of this what the f***s going on?…”
Addicks on the south coast: Addicks Diary;
CA fact: Nigel Adkins was the 7th different manager to be in charge of the Saints in our last 7 league visits to St Mary’s.
A. I’m not impressed a player sitting on the bench during a match is “tweetin.”
B. I’m even less impressed with his comment.
C.
C. Sorry, I wasn’t finished. I would suggest he be given his walking papers at season’s end.
Someone in the know remind me how many season tickets we sold this year please?
Chris: So far for next season 6,253 compared to 6,065 at same stage last year.
Total sold by the first game of this season was 8,769. Final total sold including after the season started, i.e half seasons 9,190.
