Spoils shared in Sheffield thriller

Sheffield Wednesday 2 Charlton Athletic 2
If whatever Chris Powell said to the players before the game is an indication of what is to come, then bring it on! Charlton came flying out of the blocks yesterday at Hillsborough and were two-up before I’d even settled down for the commentary. No disrespect to Keefy but perhaps Sir Chris should have given the players another pep-talk at half-time!
Peacock and Damian Matthew do deserve a lot of credit for how they set us up though with Waggy playing behind Anyinsah, they both really hurt Wednesday in the first half and there sounded better performances from Francis, Elliot and Semedo to name just three.
It sounded like an enthralling game on the radio and I would have taken a draw before kick off. We owned the first half and our counter-attacking was reminiscent of our better away performances at Peterborough and Swindon. I look forward also, to seeing Robbie’s penalty save in the highlights.
Unfortunately we couldn’t get through the first 15 minutes of the 2nd half without conceding, in fact Wednesday were level after six minutes and then we had to cling on, which we manfully did. Anyinsah’s miss when one-on-one in between Wednesday’s goals would I am sure produced a different result however.
At the end of a pulsating final 15 minutes when Peacock switched to an adventurous 4-4-2 with the introduction of debutant Nathan Eccleston, Wednesday came desperately close to winning the game but we had a couple of great chances too. Darren Purse “our best player” in the first half according to the commentary team nearly snatching man of the match when he almost put in his own net, but Weaver saved.
So well done to Keith and Damien, they put some pride back into the shirt and we now wait for Sir Chris to take over the reigns officially tomorrow.
Keefy’s red and white army at Hillsborough: Doctor Kish; Charlton Lifers;
CA fact: The last time we won a league game at Hillsborough was in 1953.
I foolishly sneaked a look at some other blog sites today – when will I ever learn? Your mate NYA is a bunch of laughs isn’t he? I sort-of understand – we’ve had so many knocks its dangerous to get too excited. But for once I don’t care – let’s throw caution to the wind shall we – stop bloody moaning – and get behind the players, club, and most of all, our lovely, lovely manager. There’s nothing wrong with a bit of hysteria every now and again, and quite frankly I think we deserve some. For the first time in ages (and I don’t mean just this season) I am actually looking forward to a home game.
