Elementary my dear Benson
Swindon Town 0 Charlton Athletic 3
I was on the plane for the whole length of the game last night travelling back to Bermuda from Gatwick. The brilliant new Sherlock Holmes BBC series had taken my mind off what might be happening at the County Ground but once we touched down a fair few scenario’s played in my mind in the time it took to turn the mobile on and for it to obtain a signal but as Twitter burst into life the first few messages at the top of the page told me all I needed to know!
Thanks also to those of you that sent me the final result directly. But what a fantastic result and on paper probably the best one of the season and fine revenge too, after the heartbreak of the play-off’s.
The tightnening of the defence has been an obvious asset in the last couple of games and Elliot sounded as if he made an important couple of saves last night, which away from home will always need to happen whoever you play.
Still, unlike last season (and a few before that) we suddenly have strikers that can score goals. Benson maybe a poor man’s beardless Derek Hales, but if we can find him in the box he looks very capable at this level of finding the net and in Joe Anyinsah we have uncovered, well Parky uncovered, a quick, direct player who is a pain in the backside to defenders.
Then lastly we have good sprinklering of wide players who when used properly can deliver accurate crosses into the box. Well done lads and well done to Parky.
Addicks celebrating at the Magic Roundabout: Doctor Kish;
CA fact: Since forming in 1881, Swindon have spent just one season in the top flight. They finished bottom of the Premier League in 1993/4 and let in 100 goals – still a record.
