A step in time

My son for many years, or as he might tell you 24,000 hours, is obsessed with time. How long will it take, how long will we stay when we get there, what time is it, what time is it in Russia, how many hours before I have to brush my teeth again…. you get the sketch and the little bugger won’t even wear a watch.

The minutes and the hours we have had together in Bermuda this time have flown by. We have crammed a lot of activities and fun in and spent some precious time with his baby sister but on Sunday night we head back to the UK.

By far the highlight of my son’s holiday so far was his first ever scuba dive, a week ago today. He has long had a fascination not only with time but with the sea and it’s inhabitants. He had an air of confidence of someone who knew exactly what was going to happen during his pre-dive lesson, that was until he stepped into the deep ocean with that bloody huge tank on his back.

However the instructor was brilliant and an hour later (it was an hour he assured me) he was back on the surface and his eyes and mind were quivering with stories of barracuda’s, angel fish, butterfly fish, grouper’s, rockfish, sergeant majors, moray eels and lobsters.

I booked him a repeat lesson for this afternoon, in exactly five hours time in fact, I can assure you.

That is fantastic. My son is 6 and every thing is “How many minutes?” It doesn’t matter if it’s dinner, the request for help on a PS3 ganme while I’m working, time to arrival or when he wan turn of Daddy’s “Rubbish” on the TV to watch some proper stuff. It’s always “How many more minutes?”

Secretly I love it. I suspect you do too!
