Mikkel and dimed

Charlton Athletic 1 Bristol Rovers 1
I have to admit I was quite worried about last night’s game. It had all the makings for me of an upset so in the end I was pleased to take a draw.

It was a frustating afternoon for me. A busy work day spent mostly out of the office meant I was unable to follow the game except for some concealed glances at my Blackberry. However upon reading the reports it sounded like a decent performance and we had plenty of chances to take all three points. So I look at it that Rovers grabbed the unexpected point that Yeovil should have done on Saturday. It can work that way and the Gasheads will be rightly pleased with their week’s work on the road.

Chances of an appeal? Sweet FA

Charlton Athletic 3 Yeovil Town 2
An exciting game at The Valley on Saturday ended with another 3 points after Johnnie Jackson hammered home a 85th minute penalty, after Akpo Sodje was hauled down in the box. Well tickled down anyway.

Paul Huntington was sent off for that challenge (2nd yellow), the same man who ran 60-yards to convince referee Whitestone to send off Christian Dailly for an alleged elbow. I have to say the video clip looks like he led with his arm, even if was lacking intent. I hope the club can find another angle if they are to pursue the FA with an appeal because the FA have a habit of turning their noses up at us. In our favour is that both Yeovil player Sam Williams and manager and ex-Welling United defender Terry Skiverton said it was a clash of heads after the game.

Cherries picked

Charlton Athletic 1 AFC Bournemouth 0
One tries to temper the hope the first Saturday of the season brings. Last season Norwich and Swindon were great examples of how much the first game means in the whole context of the season but nonetheless getting that first win on the board is always important and that is exactly what we did this afternoon.

From the commentary The Valley faithful sounded right behind the new-look team and Akpo got the goal that our early pressure deserved. Kyel Reid tormented Bournemouth first half before understandably running out of steam in the second. Sodje himself impressed, and came in for some good praise on the radio.
