The 2010 Shower Gellies™

A couple of days in January post Parky and pre Powell, this blog had a couple of days with well over 700 daily views. Well I fully expect that to be beaten today. Now don’t give me the old this is not CAFC content line, you’ve either come here because you are dyslexic, or you Googled ‘shower gel’ or like me you expect hotels to have enough product in their bathrooms to clean their guests. Welcome to the 5th annual Chicago Addick Shower Gellies™

Previous years winners: 2009; 2008; 2007; 2006.

Further development at Tuckers Point

Last week my favourite hotel brand Rosewood officially took over the management of Tuckers Point. Interestingly at the same time Tuckers announced an agreement with the Bermudian Government to circumvent restrictions on building on prime open space. This has been met with outcry from the National Trust amongst many others as the land earmarked for development around Glebe Road and Paynter’s Hill (right) is currently a swarthe of open hills that are home to 17 of the last 19 Yellowwood trees in Bermuda, rock outcrops and also include a large network of ancient caves.

Tuckers Point’s viability has been a continual struggle and this expansion is believed to be the only way it can be financially successful. Rosewood and HSBC, who are reportedly owed $85m, are said to have insisted on the further development which will include 78 residences and another 70 hotel rooms. However the work will not be immediate as the hotel’s Bermudian owners look to weather the recession.

Bermuda’s recession just starting

It was announced this week, to no great surprise that Bermudian Bank NT Butterfield has called in it’s loans to the Newstead Belmont Hills Golf Resort and Spa. The money owed to the bank, that is not doing too chipper itself, is thought to run into tens of millions of dollars.

My Top 5 2010 Hotels

I love hotels. If I could have someone to pack and unpack me then I would actually just live in them, moving every few weeks when I wanted a change of view. My current job means I don’t travel anywhere near as much as I used to, but I could still pick 5 hotels that I loved in 2010.

My Top Five Favourite Hotels in 2010

1. Rosewood Mayakoba, Riviera Maya, Mexico
I have bored you many times about how much I love the Rosewood Hotels group. This one between Cancun and Tulum is built around miles of emerald coloured lagoon waters. The hotel could not be faulted from the tequila lounge to it’s sunken hot tub in your very own garden.

Rosewood to take over Tucker’s Point Hotel

If you are a regular reader of mine you will know that I have long been in love with the Rosewood Hotel Group, in my humble opinion the best luxury brand hotels in the world.

There are only 19 owned and/or managed Rosewood Hotels, and I have on my bucket list to visit all of them. I am currently stuck on five but then completely out of the blue as we sat on the bed last night at the Tucker’s Point Hotel watching the local news, that increased to six!
