20 Years; 20 Places: No 2 Los Cabos, Mexico

This Blog began life as a diary of my formative months living in Chicago on my own. 20 years later a lot of things have changed but this journal predominantly still chronicles my support of Charlton Athletic and my travels.

To commemorate 20 years in no particular order I will choose 20 Players and 20 Places that have left a mark on me. Next one of the Places is Los Cabos in Mexico.

On the western coast of Mexico three hours south of Los Angeles down to the bottom of the Baja Californian Peninsula is Mexico’s Los Cabos with the huge endless stretch of the Pacific on one side and the Sea of Cortez on the other brushing up onto the mainland.

In the budding days of me and the sombrero-wearing-other-half we spent a week on holiday in beautiful Los Cabos almost 20 years ago.

Due to it being a short hop from the west coast of the US, the main town of Cabo San Lucas was pretty overloaded with Americans, the LA type and all, but close by San Jose del Cabo had a much more authentic Mexican feel to it.

The stretch between the two towns is known locally as ‘the corridor’ and that is where we stayed, and honestly it was the beauty of the hotel and my companion that is the leading reason Los Cabos easily made my list.

The hotel had, and still has I believe, mastered perfection. The setting was magnificent, and the property stunning. I wrote back then that it was probably the finest hotel I had ever stayed in.

People watching, tequila tasting, incredible dining, snorkeling, infinity pools, the sea lions, the pelicans, and sunny lazy day’s are all etched into my memory of a wonderful week. Oh, and Diana Ross was staying a couple of rooms down.

Los Cabos. Holiday for two 2005.

Los Cabos is where my stepdaughter has bought some land. It is about 7 1/2 acres near La Fortuna but in the hills above. We flew in via Dallas/Fort Worth last year and stayed for just two weeks either side of Christmas. We also saw whales as well as pelicans flying by.Best wishes from John Wainwright and my grandson Albie Sargent who is the next generation and avid Charlton fan
