Oxford win promotion

A bit of a turn up that. Bolton just didn’t show up and Oxford were worthy winners.

That means that we keep both Peterborough and Bolton as well Barnsley and welcome Birmingham City, Huddersfield Town, Rotherham, Stockport, Wrexham and Mansfield. Crawley and Crewe meet at Wembley tomorrow to decide our last remaining opponent for next season.

Any hope of a Bolton comeback in the 2nd half didn’t materialize, so credit to Oxford who did finish the season strongly. Des Buckingham allegedly turned us down after Dean Holden was sacked.

1999 was the last time Oxford were in the 2nd tier. They fell through the divisions and spent four seasons in the National League until 2010. This was their 8th season in League One and they found the key, and we didn’t.

Charlie Methven has never disguised Oxford is his team, and he was there today all kitted up. Fair play, we are only a (small) investment and a job to him. Hopefully he works harder to get his employer up next year.

    Well done Oxford.

Despite finishing a whole 20 points (7 wins give or take) behind Bolton it proved what can be done.

That said, Div1 looks mighty tough next year.

Just getting top 10 would be an achievement.
