Old Trafford

Man United away. Memories of 1986 and Mark Stuart, 2006 and Curbs, and 1994, and Leaburn senior.
Our last and only League Cup Quarter Final, was in the 2006/2007 season which was a horror night at The Valley. This time we take the role of underdog just like we did last night.
‘Things can only get better.’ 🎶
They have to.

We can but D:Ream
I remember it well. Schmeichel’s red card and us singing along to D.Ream at half time….Can I take this opportunity to thank you CA for all your blogs this year, and wish you and family a very Merry Xmas
Thank you Adrian. Merry Christmas to you and your family as well.
I say CA can we now stop all this crap about the worst ever team please? I agree we have had some worst performances and i can’t deny our league position but slagging of my own players never sits easy with me, especially as we have so many youngsters. A bit hypocritical of me when i only recently wanted to strangle innis, but i only ranted on indoors. And george dobson would never be in my worst team.
Another great memory of old trafford was the farewell to Jorge Costa and holding up manure’s champions celebrations – Jorge never really understood why we loved him so much.
Merry Christmas CA. Keep up the brilliant work. Xx
LP – I reserve the right to be over dramatic 😃. Although you are absolutely spot on about Dobbo.
The Costa game was 2002. Did you see the tweet Costa sent the other day?
Going back further the end of season 1990 game was a great day out as well. Man U had Palace in Cup Final the next week, and we made our feelings clear of how we wanted that to go.
Merry Christmas to you and your family,
Showing my age, and not that I was there, but I also remember the 5-1 League Cup defeat in 1974/5. Peter Hunt scored in the first minute, and all down hill from there. Phil Warman got their second with an own goal. McIlroy, Macari (2) and Houston got the others. I just looked up the United team – only English player was Alex Stepney. 7 Scots, 2 Irish, 1 N Irish. I have no memory of how I followed this game, but if there was no football on Radio 2 (which there often wasn’t) the only way was to try and catch the result just before 10pm on Radio 2, or wait for the paper the next morning!
The season before my first, so that was the year we went up wasn’t it. Man Utd were in Division 2 that season.
Yes that’s right. Amazing team United had for Div 2. I hadn’t realised it was so close to our League Cup defeat, but just the following Monday I was at the Den for Millwall v United (my elder sister is a big United fan). One of those matches with lasting memories, mostly for the crackling atmosphere, and the endless fights and scuffles breaking out on all sides of the Den throughout the match. Ended 0-1 – apparently a Gerry Daly penalty, but although in my mind I can see and almost feel the Den on that night, I don’t really remember that bit!
Remember that 1986 game so well, there & back in an old transit van 10 of us ended up at a party Bexley Village and the host was a Man U fan, great memories
Jealous. I listened to it on LBC.
Needless to say i don’t tweet CA – please share the Costa one. Thank you. He could play instead of innis. X
