20 Years; 20 Places: No.5 Buenos Aires

Moving on with my 20 Places to celebrate 20 Years of Blogging. No ranking just memorable.

Next up is the Queen of El Plata, the Argentinian capital of Buenos Aires.

Buenos Aires is a city of many contrasts, a proud city, with colonial buildings, open spaces, a deep culture and vivacious citizens. Not to mention five things that make this city a fantastic place to go and visit – food, wine, ice cream, tango and of course the beautiful game. We went to a River Plate home match when we were there.

There is a darker side to Buenos Aires to go alongside some very dark history, and some of the most attractive people you will ever see sip on coffee and pastries along beautiful narrow calles and Jacaranda lined avienidas just a stones throw from some of the poorest areas in the world.

We visited in 2007, and it’s been on my list to go back ever since. I remember on the way from Chicago American Airlines lost my luggage and I didn’t get it back for days, but it was an excuse to shop and walk this amazing place.

My overarching memory of Buenos Aires was that it was sexy and alive, and it is one of the most beautiful cities in the Americas. I die to return one day.

Buenos Aires. Me and the other-half. 2007.
