Godden again

Rich Cawley has found out a little more on the summer absence of Matt Godden in an interview with Nathan Jones.

“It was a minor procedure on the knee, just a clean-up type of thing” that has kept last season’s top scorer out of pre-season. (more)

Godden was another that played through the pain barrier in the last part of the season, and the club and Matt thought the summer made sense to have his surgery especially since we now have some cover.

I did see elsewhere that we weren’t expecting to see Godden until September, and it was good, if a surprising omission by Jones, to find out more on Godden’s status.

Today’s You Tube Jones interview with Charlotte Richardson was a great watch. We may not see the manager looking so relaxed for a while!

It’s all getting a bit real and the squad numbers were released today. I am old fashioned and remember when shirt and squad numbers used to mean something, but nowadays players pick shirt numbers for all kinds of reasons.

36 players have been given squad numbers, including a host of U21’s. Gassan Ahadme keeps no. 9. Somewhere in deepest Kent tonight Derek Hales will shaking his head.

I also enjoyed the interview. Goodness, when I started watching Charlton it was 1 to 11 and no subs. Back then Charlton were a mid table Division 2 side, and I would be very happy if we achieved that this season.

Good old RC at finding out at last why Godden has been missing. Obviously, apart from the minor surgery it will take some time for him to get up to match fitness, so I wouldn’t expect to see him until end of September, if not into October.
Plus with Ahadme retaining his number 9 shirt, looks like he won’t be going anywhere soon, as no real offers to buy him!
So it will be interesting to see who will be off loaded &/or loaned out as it appears the Wolves trialist may be taken on making then 37 players, which would be an extremely large squad overall, which surely would be over the limits allowed, including the under 21’s who don’t count towards the 25 limit if they have been playing in the UK for at least three years, if I am correct. Which would then rule out Dixon completely playing for the first team, unless he counts as one of the 25, unless I am wrong, as there are so many different rules on the squads now, plus they are different for each league!
Much easier in the old days, eleven players and two subs, simple. 🙂

Mike, goalkeepers don’t count towards the 25, but agree still a large squad. I think some will move out before the end of August. Best to build the squad and reduce I think is the theory.

Yep don’t get that No.9 thing, not sure the Moroccan Prince should’ve been allowed to keep it notwithstanding his cameo last weekend.
Can’t wait now, only snag is had minor nasal surgery and the discharge nurse, despite my pleadings, was pretty adamant I shouldn’t go Saturday. Will see what Saturday brings, definitely will avoid the Borough Market melee, maybe drive and see if the club can sit me somewhere a bit calmer (last season could have sat on my tod anywhere but them days are gone thankfully). Simply can’t miss it for all the obvious reasons plus on an unbroken home/away streak since Christmas.
    COME ON YOU REDS!

I find myself in a weird place tonight I’ve got home from work watched 28 years later on the telly and it’s rubbish by the way and now I’m watching sky sports leading up to the Birmingham Ipswich game I’ve not watched a opening game to a new season involving us or any other team as it’s just been disheartening I now find myself routed to the telly to see how these two teams get on and to be honest I want Ipswich to win but I’m now involved I can’t get to every game as I work for myself but over the past few years I didn’t care as it felt like the owners didn’t care
I know now they do and I can’t wait for tomorrow even though I’m at work but I can’t wait to get back to the valley the Wycombe home game feels like years ago now
