Storrie’s promise

Therefore, the budget has been increased on the players side and the targets are there. Dean and I, along with Steve Gallen, are working hard towards putting those together and it doesn’t matter what happens on the ownership side; this is the way is club going forward and fans should be well aware of that. Obviously for legal reasons we can’t name the players we’re looking to sign before July 1st, but we’re well advanced in the squad that we’re putting together with the simple aim of making sure that this club is, at the very minimum, challenging for the top six next season.” Peter Storrie.
Will this come back to haunt Peter Storrie? That was in early May, and although the season is not quite yet over and contracts do run through June, I think we’d all like to see some early positive action.
Storrie made it sound that Thomas Sandgaard’s sale of the club will not de-rail the club’s transfer window plans. “It’s not impacting it one little bit. As I’ve said the targets are there, we’re working on them and we’ve increased the budget to allow us to do that,” Storrie added.
It now looks as if the Joshua Friedman led group with support act Charlie Methven are still a fair way from completing their takeover. The SPA (Sale and Purchase Agreement) is not yet signed and then the EFL will also have to approve the transaction.
Sandgaard is also known to be talking to other suitors. So, who is going to fund this foray into the transfer market to transform the squad into a promotion challenging one?
It won’t be Sandgaard, and I have no idea why any possible new owners would, especially when they are dealing with the capricious Sandgaard, who you know despite the bluster kept a firm hand on the budget during January.

Bearing in mind the amateurish management by Garner whom I feel got off quite likely in terms of taking responsibility for his actions, the January transfer window for CAFC was always a non starter. With Holden in place the vibe is much more pragmatic and positive. If money is there, an owner would have more confidence in loosening the purse strings. We live in hope…
When Storrie talks here about a budget increase, this probably does not mean for buying players. It probably means that there will be a modest rise in the wage bill. Given that we have just shed what are likely to have been some of our higher wage earners, there will already be wage money to spend, even with Sandgaard in charge. I think, though, that we are unlikely to get any players that require a transfer fee, without contributions from any potential new owner. This, latter, seems unlikely, at least until the deal is signed and there is strong confidence in passing the EFL fitness criteria. Sandgaard will be putting no further money into the club that does anything other that keep the show on the road from a sale perspective.
Well it is all a nonsense m, how can there be transfer funds available when we don’t know who is going to own the club. As you say Sandgaard isn’t going to invest any money in the team if he is looking to sell and no new potential owner is going to put significant funds into the clubs before they own it.
Smoke and mirrors isn’t it. We apparently were going to make a big splash in January but with outgoings and cheaper incomings that was definitely a ‘net negative churn.’
I’m not sure why I see this differently to most?
If potential buyers are serious in buying the club why wouldn’t they agree a budget? Knowing the takeover itself may take time, as it has already, and could potentially interfere with the progression of the club in the transfer window. Even Sandgaard must realise he needs to make the club as attractive as possible and he may reluctantly recognise that that will require spending money.
I think it sums it up when we are already looking at a 30 year old freebie winger who has been released, as our first signing with the only other competitor being Bristol Rovers!
Well, we don’t know that, it’s paper talk. There’ll always be potential freebies and we don’t know why he’s not necessarily made a mark at the various clubs he’s been at?
He may just be seen as a squad player and we need a good back up to the first eleven?

Jackanory Peter Storrie? Who knows. What l do know is that until the ownership of the club (whoever that might be) start to sign player’s – and decent player’s at L1 level – l will not be putting my hand in my pocket for a season ticket. If new ownership take control of the club much later than planned in the transfer market, which limits their ability to sign quality player’s, then that’s their lookout. I’m not prepared to be conned again by an owner.
I hope you are right, but we’re in a bit of a no man’s land. The deal could collapse until the final moment and so I can’t see any potential buyer investing their money until the deal is done. This then only leaves TS to dip into his pocket for transfer fees and wages; he didn’t do this when he owned the club… I’m also not sure this will make the club more attractive to sell as more wages mean bigger losses.

It’s probably very likely that the first transfer market moves we’re involved in will be in getting rid of a few under contract players before we start adding new faces. Several of Charlie Kirk, DJ, Sam Lavelle and maybe Joe Wollacott could be heading for the door. Once the squad has been slimmed down then we can start adding/re-building.
The word is that the wages budget will go out to around £6m for the first team squad which suggests that there is room for a couple of high earners at least. Whether these players will be bought or be signed as free transfers who knows. There are rumours about Alfie May for example who’s leaving Cheltenham Town on a free and offers have been made to Michael Hector.
As for Joshua Friedman, assuming he was part of the consortium interested in buying Charlton earlier this year then it’s likely that he has done a bit of due diligence already and possibly reached out to the EFL to pass their tests. But as we are some weeks away from pre-season training and even further away from the season starting then we have time to let this happen.
Ok I don’t think I like Charlie boy very much seems a bit like to much ESI bad memory stuff I know a lot of fans do not like TS and with him promoting family members to work for the club reminds me of a mr rat
I do think Thomas had a great idea of us climbing the football league ladder but didn’t realise it takes a heck of a lot of money if only he knew a couple of film stars
We have a football club thanks to him but we don’t have any ambition to get out of this league
I don’t trust meathen I think it’s another pile of the horse stuff I hope I’m wrong
Let’s hope we can get a decent owner who wants cafc in its whole capacity training ground car park pitch players turnstiles and undersoil heating
