Charlton Athletic 0 Norwich City 1

So just the one chance of a Cup Final now after exiting the FA Cup at The Valley this afternoon in front of a decent and noisy crowd.

First and foremost we should be proud of the performance, but we should have won, and showed how toothless this squad is in front of goal without the two players that have scored half of our goals so far this season.

We bettered Norwich all over the pitch, yet without being harsh, the game really was there for the taking but after a string of missed Addicks’ chances, the game opened up, and late in the 2nd half Pukki squared for Kosovan international Rashica to get the winner.

Although Norwich rested key players man for man the team was still a big step up on quality compared to ours, nonetheless for large chunks of the game you could be mistaken that this was a League One game as poor as Norwich looked.

We even had the Norwich players wasting time and their fans chanted “Olé” every time they kept the ball! A win is a win and their travelling support celebrated just their 4th win in 22 matches this season like they’d actually won the FA Cup.

Jacko and his players have to take the positivities from this performance, because it was good, but if we have any chance of keeping our season alive Thomas has to get the cheque book out and soon.

Jacko: “We got done 1-0 and we’re out of the cup. It’s bittersweet. I’m really proud of the performance and of the players. But at the same time I’m disappointed. We should be through but we’re not. We have to look at ourselves and ask what we’re going to do better. But I can take heart from knowing if we keep playing that way then we’re going to be alright.”

No firepower up front at all without Washington and Stockley playing as a duo together, even they can’t seem to do anything by themselves when one of them isn’t playing! Unfortunately we don’t have another decent forward who can put the ball in the net &/or combime with either S or W, plus we also have no midfielders who can chip in reguarly with a goal here and there. Apart from Gilbeys weak effort on target and Purringtons last minute effort against the post that was it, similar to wycombe game!
Apart from getting at least another decent forward in who can find the net,The only other issue we have, is with wasted free kicks and corners almost every game, surely Jackson must have realised by now someone else needs to take them rather than Eilliot! The only decent free lick we had was when Henderson came up to take the late one when we almost scored from, how Inniss must have wished he had, had those type of balls sent over, when he as on the pitch, it might have been a different ending!

    • Have to agree Mike. Our corners and free-kicks are abysmal. Time for Lee to hand them to someone else.

Obviously agree about a striker but for everyone that metions thomas’ chequebook not one mention of who there is to actually buy who wants to play 3rd division foorball next season. So come on all of you give steve, thomas and me a clue.

We don’t score enough goals when Washington and Stockley play, without them we look toothless. We need at least one if not two goal scoring players in – either forwards or attacking midfielders.

It doesn’t help that our attacking midfielders are goal shy, Gilbey and Lee have scored just three goals between them. Leko has a couple of goals, as has DJ and Davison, I think our next highest scorer is Ben Purrington with three goals. And ass much as I like Elliot Lee for his midfield wizardry, his final ball too often lets him down.

Elsewhere some good news today, Sam Lavelle played 45 minutes for the U23s in a 3-2 win against Millwall.
