Massive

A big final day all around us in League One and in The Championship. Unsure to why we get Sunday all to ourselves.

Sheffield Wednesday were relegated a year after they really should have been as Wayne Rooney’s Derby County survived by the skin of their teeth thanks to a heartbreaking late goal for Cardiff that meant that Rotherham also dropped despite leading in Wales for so much of the game.

I had Soccer Saturday on and Paul Merson spent the whole of the first half complaining. I don’t know what sort of game he was expecting at Pride Park, but he was a little bit more present in the 2nd half, after a word from the director I guess.

Derby and Wednesday are both on a downward spiral, and Derby in my mind have just pro-longed the agony by a year. Rotherham and Wycombe both look better equipped to challenge for promotion next season over Wednesday and Derby, if they’d have fallen.

There won’t be many tears shed around SE7 to see Wednesday’s demise. They are a grand old club though and somehow need to rid themselves off their dodgy owner and regain some credibility. As for Derby an awkward and difficult summer ensues.

Joining from the other direction are Cambridge United, Bolton Wanderers and champion’s Cheltenham Town.

Cheltenham we have never played a league game against and for Cambridge, who will replace Peterborough from The Fens, it will be almost 30 years since they last played the Addicks. Cambridge incidentially made the play-off’s in the 2nd tier the year before the Premier League was formed. Those were the days of Dion Dublin. The third promoted side is Bolton, back from the brink after freefalling through the divisions. Congratulations to all three.

We will be there to greet those new entrants? We’ll know tomorrow when the season either ends or moves on.

  1. Yes you said it. Wednesday escaped last season when they should have been relegated, so a little justice there.
Us, our chances to pass them on the way up is not so much pending in what we do, more getting a helping hand from teams that are in the mix with Oxford and Portsmouth who this moment have the upper hand.
I would love nothing more to see our team back where we belong, but we had our chances I’m sure most of us would agree.
Nevertheless, I trust our boys will give it their all against Hull and go out fighting however the day might end.
Good luck to the Addicks we are all behind you.

  2. Well done also to Forest Green for reaching the Play Offs….it would be great for me to have two Away games lose to home in The Malverns

Thinking selfishly…I was happy to see Derby stay up, they could potentially have been strong rivals next season, their absence makes L1 look a bit more manageable.
