Well done Bow

I don’t have a lot of like for Birmingham City. I’ve been to St. Andrews numerous times and most of them have been rather unpleasant, off the field anyway. Yet I have been keeping an eye on their progress under Lee Bowyer, and today a win at ‘Wayne Rooney’s Derby’ secured their Championship safety which looked very dubious upon his arrival in mid-March.

Favorites for the drop when Bowyer joined The Blues have lost just one game in eight, that to Watford, under Bowyer. When he joined they were 4th from bottom, had played more games than anyone around them and had four teams in the top six as Bowyer’s first four fixtures.

Bowyer is very goal orientated, and the siege mentality he can create and togetheness should not be forgotten. I won’t because it is infectious.

He is rough around the edges in more ways than one, but he is young and can learn how to manage players, personalities and game situations, but being a competitor and a winner is something that that you either have or you haven’t. Lee does.

Well done Bow.

Sorry you don’t like Birmingham very much as Charlton are one of the few London teams I have any time for. I admit we do have a large number of Neanderthals amongst our support, and I have no doubts that they can make away days less fun than they should be.
Anyway, good luck for next season, and enjoy the sun where you are.

  2. Thanks for posting Roy. Had a few near misses, one less so near, so sticks in the memory. Mind you since I wrote that post I now have ‘Keep right on’ whizzing around in my head. St Andrews is electric when that gets going.

Good luck to you and Bow as well.

  3. Agree and well done to him. Have you also noticed how we aren’t conceding so many goals when a certain defender plays, was Bow unlucky?

  4. Barnie – I have. Bowyer definitely was unlucky with injuries.

    • Chicago Yet another excuse but he has had to put up with a lot at CAFC and pleased for him and when saw him re the Derby match on Tv he looked so relaxes.
Thanks Bows for your 1st 2 plus season with CAFC

As a Birmingham fan I’d just like to say what a breath of fresh air Lee Bowyer has been. He was already seen as a bit of a hero being part of the 2011 League Cup winning team this is why he was given a great reception by the Blues fans when we played Charlton last year. I think this had a bearing on him swapping the frying pan for the fire as the media put it. What he is achieved in such a short space of time is nothing short of remarkable of 5 wins and two draws in 8 games. I’m glad Charlton have finally got a decent owner and are on the mend after years of poor ownership. We are trying to do the same with our owners. I wish Charlton all the best in their playoffs hunt. Your playoff versus Sunderland ranks as one of my favourite non-blues games ever. As for unsavoury moments after visiting St Andrews we do have some idiots as do most clubs but don’t tar everyone with the same brush. Most are hardworking decent people. You have got a good replacement manager with a promotion pedigree. Looking forward to locking horns with the Addicks in the near future.

What a wonderful, thoughtful post and well appreciated and yes Bows has been a breath of fresh air for you and yes obviously a wonderful signing for you and congratulations to your team
TBF he was getting very very stale at my team of over 60 years and he had so many issues to deal with.
I actually managed to see some of the game against Derby live in Thailand and in Bermuda also and he looked so relaxed, apart from once the camera was closing in on Rooney who was gesticulating the 4th official and LOL did that a fair bit at CAFC.
A very good fit and likewise CAFC with Mr Positivity and amazingly we have an outside chance of the playoffs.
The jury is still out and he has done very well since coming in and frankly, under Bows we would be nowhere near the playoffs.
TBF he did wonders for us in his first 2 or 3 seasons.

Indeed Birmingham has had huge Ownership issues, as well and I hope they are sorted and find it interesting about every club has its so-called idiots and reading about the media blackout from 30 April for a few days.

Adkins is the right man to lead you to promotion. That point versus Charlton last season probably kept us up. I did feel sorry for Charlton and Lee Bowyer when you got relegated. Sheffield Wednesday should’ve got their points deduction last year.

I can’t wait to get back to the ground to cheer on Lee Bowyer and the boys. I’ve no idea how it’s gonna pan out though with two stands being left in a state of disrepair by idiotic owners. With Covid and social distancing I’ve absolutely no idea what the capacity will be reduced to. If there’s one thing to take from this pandemic it’s to appreciate what you have as it can be taken away from you in a blink of an eye. Anyway good luck in your remaining games.

As a Blues fan I am delighted with Bowyers transformation of the team. We were going down, no doubt about that. The job he has done, to turn it around so quickly and change the players mindset from lost little boys into winners has been amazing.
I also think Charlton,s appointment of Adkins is a very good choice. He knows how to get teams out of League One and compete in the Championship. I hope you make the play offs and we see you next season

    • John. I will post but will take out your last paragraph. My blog is not going to be a platform for your past grievances against the CAFC media team.

      April 25, 2021
      • Yes and a proper CAFC supporter and what a surprise a poor result and used all our goals up and an outside chance of the playoffs.

The departure of Bow has worked for all parties – BCFC are certain of Championship football next season, something that was beginning to look unlikely, Bow was got his mojo back as a manager and in came Nigel Adkins to similarly rejuvenate Charlton.
